At the top of Africa. The summit of Mt Kilimanjaro

MT. KILIMANJARO

 Summit – Uhuru Peak 5,895 metres (19,341 feet) above sea level.

I reached the summit at 8.40 am on the 28th July, one of four out of a group of seven.

I would like to thank all of you who made a donation to Kotela School near to the Kilimanjaro Park gate. (It was what kept me going when the altitude started to hurt!) I will inform you of the final total raised when I have collected all of the money but I anticipate that it will be in the region of £2,000.

I met the headmaster in Tanzania prior to my ascent and he expressed his deep gratitude to you all. He is planning to spend the money on a large water tank so that the school will have water in the dry season when the source dries up.
He will also be purchasing sports equipment for the boys and girls. I am sure that there will money left over and I am confident that this will be spent wisely on educational materials and other school improvements.
