The Opening of the Orr Music School

Out of the Blue
Highfield's magnificent Orr Music School was offiicially opened by Mr Robin Orr, Headmaster of Highfield 1979-1993 and Mr Richard Stilgoe, O.B.E. musician, composer, celebrated lyricist and performer on Saturday 13th May.

In the Pink
A large number of guests, including parents, former parents and pupils, Senior School Heads and Music Staff from many Senior and Prep Schools were splendidly entertained at a Drinks Reception in the Sports Hall by two Oxford based a capella groups 'Out of the Blue' and 'In the Pink'.

The official Opening Ceremony was then conducted outside the new building with speeches from Mr William Mills, The Chairman of Directors of Highfield, Mr Robin Orr and Mr Richard Stilgoe who led the assembled host in a splendid Hogwarts version of Frere Jacques, much to the amusement of all. Mr Stilgoe emphasised the joy that music brings into peoples lives and a most enjoyable evening certainly confirmed this.

The Reception Area

The Orr Music School offers children at Highfield outstanding new facilities, including a 'state of the art' Music Technology Room, nine purpose built Music Practice Rooms and a superb Music Room on the first floor of the building. Visitors attending the official opening were amazed at the transformation of this part of the School, the ground floor having been the Girls' and Boys' Changing Rooms.
