Extra-Curricular Activities

Children at Highfield have the opportunity to take part in huge array of extra-curricular activities. During the school day, Thursday afternoon is dedicated to our ‘Keys to Life’ Programme and each child is timetabled to participate in a carousel of different activities including Fencing, Dance, African Drumming, Swimming, Orienteering and many others. Some children opt to receive professional Golf Coaching, and this is also the time that the School Orchestra rehearses.

After School Clubs take place when the normal school day finishes at 4.40pm and run for 50 minutes. These activities are voluntary and examples of the activities offered include Pottery, Mountain Biking, Arts and Crafts, Judo, Running Club, Reflex Street and Break Dance Club, Film Clubs, Real Tennis, Remote Control Club, Storytime, Gymnastics, Ballet, Photography, Debating, Chess and many more!

Highfield Keys 'The keys to life, unlocking potential'

On Thursday afternoons (Fridays for Year 4) every child is involved in the new Keys to Life programme. For a double lesson, pupils take part in a range of 'activities' related to our three Key aspects of the programme; Life Skills, Environment and the Outdoors, and Community & Charitable work. 'Activities' range from Debating, Cooking, Understanding Charity, Environmental Art, Life Saving, Bushcraft, Dance, Knots, Bird Watching, Shelter Building, Community Art, Fencing, Fund Raising and Orienteering.

For Years 7 and 8, the Life Skills aspect includes new topics such as Budgeting, Public Speaking and Interview technique. Also for half a term in both Years 7 and 8, pupils take part in the HighReach programme. This involves weekly visits and work with local charities; Stepping Stones (School for children with mild disabilities / hemiplegia), Hollywater School (for children with complex learning difficulties) and The Peak Centre (a centre for the elderly). A hugely valuable experience for our older pupils.

Tennis & Swimming

Extra swimming and tennis lessons are available after school if required through our Activities Department, visit the Swim School and Holiday Activities area of this site to find out more.
