Welcome to Highfield School

Highfield is a happy school, the happiest I have worked in; children bubble with enthusiasm for all that goes on, while showing a courtesy, respect and concern for one another that is genuinely heart-warming.

Why is this? First we have a highly committed and caring staff who genuinely enjoy working with and caring for children. Second, an exceptional academic tradition based on exciting, first rate teaching, reinforced by a broad and stimulating curriculum. This nourishes both our distinguished Scholarship success and our unbroken record of securing our pupils entry to their first choice Senior Schools, self-confident, self-reliant and well prepared. Third, and above all, Highfield is great fun, there is always so much going on and so much to do, whatever a child's interests. Schools should be places of joy, wonder, excitement and enchantment and this is what we consistently strive to provide.

This may all sound too good to be true, but what I am delighted and proud of is that it is precisely these qualities that are praised by our parents, pupils and visitors.

We understand and celebrate that great education does not begin and end in the classroom. We are richly blessed with superb facilities and a beautiful rural setting, some 175 acres of woodlands and fields. These offer the perfect backdrop for adventure and play and provide outstanding facilities for sport.  We are rightly proud of our excellent sporting reputation, achieved through fine coaching and our commitment to 'Sport for All' providing the opportunity for all our children to discover and develop their sporting skills. Equally impressive is the school's reputation in the Creative Arts. Music thrives, with almost all our pupils engaged in learning at least one instrument, or singing in one of our choirs. The exuberance and quality of Art has won many accolades and our fine record of Art Scholarships is testament to this.  Drama is also strong at all levels and productions, both small and large scale, regularly involve many of the children.

Pastoral care is paramount with the happiness and well-being of every child at the core of daily life, and the strong Christian ethos of the school, reinforced by regular worship in our beautiful Chapel, helps strengthen the message of kindness, tolerance and forgiveness, our core values.

With a large proportion of boarders, we aim to provide as broad a range of activities in 'free time' and at weekends as we can. We tell everybody that 'Boarding is Fun' and a reflection of how well we succeed is the number of children who choose to stay at weekends, rather than going home.

It is impossible to enjoy a real sense of Highfield's magic simply by reading a prospectus or visiting a website, the only sure way is to visit us and experience it for yourselves. I hope that what you find here excites and intrigues you enough to make you want to do just that.  I look forward to welcoming you to Highfield in the future.
