English Language Tuition

At the start of the course the students complete an informal assessment in order to assess their current level of English. They are then be divided into small teaching groups of typically 8-10 students (maximum 12 per class), according to their age and proficiency in English.

Our three week course provides 60 hours of English Language tuition with qualified, experienced EFL teachers. We aim to ensure students improve their language skills while learning about a fun and exciting mix of topics with something of interest to everyone. As a result we favour the CLIL (content integrated) approach where students develop their speaking, understanding, reading and writing skills through topic work and encourage our teachers to include academic subjects, using this approach, where they are able. All students receive a Science lesson with our Highfield Head of Science each week and students cover the relevant history in their classes preceding an excursion.  Due to settling in activities, students receive 17 hours of English tuition in week one, 22 hours in week two, and 21 hours in week three.

Every lesson is taught in English by native speakers of English who constantly challenge the students to expand their understanding and improve their fluency. Teachers use a range of methods including role play, listening games, interviews and talks. Outside of the classroom, school life is conducted in English and our strict admissions policy ensures a diversity of first languages which encourages students to integrate and be motivated to speak English at all times. This complete imersion in English ensures fluency develops at a rapid rate.

Reporting

Parents receive a brief written report at the end of the first week letting them know how their children have settled in. A full academic report, including a pastoral report, along with an update on the activities and sports programmes will be sent home at the end of the course. Each student receives a certificate at our awards ceremony on the last day of the course.
