Sport at Brookham

Sport, of course, plays a key role in developing life skills; teamwork, communication, testing ourselves to the limit and maintaining concentration and stamina are all important. It is also essential to keep young bodies fit and healthy as they grow. The skills developed at an early age can provide each individual with the ability to stay fit and healthy throughout life.

Sport, in many forms, is an integral part of the broad curriculum that we offer our children at Brookham. For a child to do well in sport, they need to have talent, but they also require motivation, enjoyment and focus. Our specialist coaches work with children from Nursery through to Year 3. As the children grow and develop they work on their fine and gross motor skills; all year groups have weekly swimming, P.E. and games sessions. As the number of sessions increase the children work on more specific skills and tactics so that by Year 2 they are ready to take part in matches against other schools, both home and away; all ability levels have the opportunity to play competitive sport.

Our focus is to ensure that the children develop strong sportsmanship skills in terms of understanding how to host other schools and realise the importance of all children having the opportunity to represent Brookham over their time here.

Supporting our sporting aims we are lucky to have the following facilities. The School is set in 170 plus acres of well drained playing fields.  Its sporting facilities include:

  • Extensive playing fields with football, rugby, hockey and cricket pitches, rounders fields and a grass athletics track
  • Netball and tennis courts
  • Squash court
  • Indoor 20 metre swimming pool
  • Golf course
  • Sports Hall
  • Dance studio

There are further opportunities for Brookham children to enjoy sporting activities in our extensive range of After School Clubs. See the page entitled ‘Clubs & Extra-Curricular Activities’ for more information on these.
