In the last two years, Highfield School has raised in excess of £15,500 for charities from its collections in Chapel on Sundays and special events such as the Centenary and Carol services. Many different charities have benefited at the request of the visiting preachers, including charities as diverse as Macmillan Services and The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution. In addition to these, the School continues to support the Wototo Orphanage and Village in Kenya, home to orphans of Aids victims, and the Tearfund charity, through which the School sponsors the educational costs of two children -  Iris in Bolivia and Boaz in Uganda.

Last year, the School has also set up a Charity Club involving a dozen pupils and led by the Headmaster, Phillip Evitt that meets weekly. The Club has already raised over £870 through events conceived and organised by the pupils, in particular JJ Carey who raised over £400 single handed.  These funds have gone towards local charities including St Michael's Hospice, Basingstoke and BANA (British Acoustic Neuroma Association)

The annual Harvest Festival Service in the School Chapel on the 30th September was dedicated to the Peak Day Centre in Liphook and the Charity Club pupils visited the Centre to distribute the Harvest produce as well as make a donation raised through the collection taken at the Service.

Brookham, the Pre Prep School has chosen the charity Guide Dogs for the Blind for this year's charity and has raised £1,400 to date, largely due to the efforts of the children who decide on the events and help to run them. This was presented to Rob and his guide dog Nathan in an assembly this week.

Individual staff continue to raise money – Mr Shaw, Head of Geography, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of a Kenyan School, and Lynne Dunne, the School Nurse is hopefully about to overcome vertigo and make a parachute jump in aid of the aptly named LEAP school project in Johanesburg and the ISUBILO AIDS Centre in Zambia. Barnaby Gray, Head of Sport completed the gruelling Iron Man challenge raising £570.00 for Dreams Come True & £790 for Children with Leukaemia, and the  Jungfrau Mountain Marathon raising £1,000 each for Wooden Spoon & Chase Childrens Hospice. Pete Hesselmans postcards of Highfield scenes are selling well in aid of charity with Christmas cards in the pipeline.

Both schools support annual national charity events such as Red Nose Day and Link Romania Shoe Box appeals amongst many others.

"It is vitally important that the children feel actively involved in choosing the charity and raising the money throughout the year. Having someone as inspirational as Rob to come in and talk to the children about how vital his guide dog is to him has helped the children understand the direct impact of their fund raising" Says Mrs Gardiner – Head of Brookham
