Clay Shoot

Highfield Clay Shoot held on 28th Sept ‘08

On a gloriously sunny Sunday morning 44 shooters assembled to take on the challenge set by Peter Corney of the Travelling Clays Shooting Services. Participants were welcomed by the smell of cooking bacon and fresh coffee beautifully cooked and served in the paddock by Lynn Dunne and Charlotte H-C.

After the safety briefing the guns went to the stands to take on the various challenges of the Teal, Rabbit and the 40 bird 2 man flush amongst others. The flush proved a great test of both shooting and loading skills (especially for those more accustomed to having a loader!). There was some high scoring on the individual stands and indeed the individual winner (excluding the flush) was Tony Gale with a score of 29/30! He was a member of Holgate’s Heroes who walked away with the bottle of Pol Roger for the winning Team.

The highest score in the flush went to The Gangsta Boyz with a score of 45/80. It was great to have 7 OH’s in the field and also to see some young guns in Henry Skrine, Robert Harding and Guy Warrington who were shooting with their fathers. A good time was had by all and I suspect the event will be repeated. Many thanks to all those who competed. Final thanks to Richard Dunn who helped set up and run the flush and to Hazel Corney who helped make the event run so smoothly and safely.
