Provision for Special Needs

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

A child may have special educational needs if they find learning more difficult than their peers.  Such difficulties may be due to specific learning difficulties, medical conditions or behavioural or emotional problems.  Our aim, at Brookham, is to offer all children a curriculum that is appropriate to their needs.

We offer a staged approach to assessment and monitoring of special needs.  From the early stages of school the individual development of children's learning is monitored closely and parents informed of any concerns.

The Special Educational Needs co-ordinator (SENCO) is able to observe and assess children on a formal and informal basis.  Advice and support will be offered to class teachers and parents and individual lessons arranged if necessary.  We believe that co-operation between school and home is of vital importance, for those children with special needs. We are fortunate to have a trained special needs teacher on staff to help with all forms of difficulties that may arise.

Individual lessons are charged as an extra and will be added to the school bill, at the end of each term.
