Highfield’s High-Flying Boarders
The Boarders were split into four teams and spent the morning designing and making team banners in the Art Room.
After a fantastic lunch there was time for some tuck (if not much room!) before heading off to the Sports Hall to race the cars round an oval track or speedboats round a figure of eight course set out in the Swimming Pool. The teams were timed as they raced and once one challenge had been completed it was time to swap venues and try a different mode of transport.
Once cars and boats had been tested it was time to try flying. This was a short lived event in which one helicopter rapidly rose to the top of the Sports Hall before a spectacular high speed drop back to the floor. Amazingly nothing snapped but level flight was a bit of an issue from then on. The other team fared less well. Whilst the fall was not so great (only a matter of a few feet) it did snap the landing skid clean off and so competitive flying was cancelled for the rest of the day.
Two new helicopters were brought out and some more controlled flying was en-joyed by all whilst Mr Close and Mr Figgis devised a twisting and turning course to test the precision driving skills of the boarders.
At the end of it all prizes were awarded for best banner, fastest team, best team support, fastest lap of the oval, cleanest run of the speedboat course and best drive round the challenge course.
A good fun activity enjoyed by all includ-ing the duty staff!
