Year 8 Theatre Trip
Year 8 had the good fortune to see the acclaimed production of War Horse at London’s National Theatre on Thursday. Based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, the production was first rate. Actors working with astonishing, life-sized puppets led the audience on an emotionally-charged journey from the outbreak of World War One to an unforgettable climax. The story tells how Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France at the outbreak of war. Joey is soon caught up in terrifying action and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides, before finding himself alone in No Man's Land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to the trenches to find Joey and bring him home. The puppets were remarkable and the set fantastic and all was bound together by wonderful music that perfectly captured the atmosphere of a lost era of English life
