Mountain boarding

On Sunday 18th May, seventeen boarders from Highfield School went on a trip to Haredown Mountain Boarding Centre in East Dean.  On arrival at the Centre, the group set off to find a picnic location in order to build-up their energy for the afternoon ahead.  After lunch, the group was kitted-up with pads and helmets before they set out across the field to obtain the most vital piece of equipment, a mountain board.

Following an hour long tuition session, these many first timers were provided with a tractor and trailer ride to the top of the run in order to conserve their much needed energy for the downward journey!  Situated on the South Downs, the Centre provided acres of sloping grassland with areas of woodland for the children to put their skill to the test.  The children eagerly tried out their new found skills and set-off down the course with varying levels of success! By the end of the two hour session, most of the children were confident enough to successful complete a few small jumps.  A great day was had by staff and pupils alike; definitely a destination for future trips.
