English
The English Department is vibrant and enthusiastic. At its core is the desire to enthuse children with a love of the subject. Work is focussed around a variety of themes, reading texts and genres. Children are encouraged to participate in a range of activities including: creative writing, dramatisation, shared writing and literary criticism. We cover all of the technical skills in an integrated manner, placing value on technical accuracy in written work, encouraging children to take pride in every element of their work and frequently displaying handwritten work.
At CE level children continue to be offered a variety of challenging and stimulating tasks and examination texts which prepare them for both the CE examinations and the study of English in their senior schools.
The English curriculum is enhanced by theatre visits for all year groups. National Poetry Day is celebrated by workshops run by a guest Poet and further workshops on creative writing and related topics are held thourghout the year.
The Department works closelywith the Library. Apart from regular class visits, research and projects, the Library also displays students' work, raising its profile and inspiring wider interest.
