Last week was storytelling week in Reception and Nursery. The week began with a visit on Monday morning to Mr Evitt’s study where he read the children one of his favourite stories, ‘ Suddenly ‘ by Colin McNaughton. The children were so excited to be in his study for the first time and they enjoyed listening to him read.
On Tuesday, the children were read a story by Mrs Martin about rain and how it affects the land and animals in Africa. The book made the children think about the differences between our country and Africa and it resulted in lots of discussion. They enjoyed it so much that Mrs Martin had to read it twice!
On Wednesday, it was Mrs Baber’s turn to read to the children, so they all sat in her office and enjoyed making themselves comfy on her chairs and sofas. The children listened beautifully and they talked about the stories that Mrs Baber enjoyed when she was younger; which included Winnie the Pooh and Wind in the Willows. In the afternoon, Mrs Wilkes read them 'The 3 Billy Goats Gruff' and the children all joined in.
Thursday was a very exciting storytelling session because it took place in the Highfield dorms and everyone dressed in their pyjamas. The children could not believe that this was where some of the Highfield children slept and one or two were keen to stay for a sleepover. Our storytelling week finished with a visit from Alastair Daniels from 'The Storytent'. He arrived with an assortment of props and kept the Teddy Toddlers, Nursery and Reception children very engaged with his storytelling. The children enjoyed helping Alastair tell the stories by joining in with the words and actions. It has been a fabulous week and the children have all enjoyed listening to new books read by different visitors.
