Year 3 had a very exciting visitor appear on Tuesday morning, the one and only Nick Carter! Nick is an adventure seeker, who enjoys a challenge. Year 3 put him to the test when they questioned him about his travels to the top of Mount Everest. He was incredibly inspirational and the children were mesmerised by his adventures. He had stories, pictures and mountain gear to share. The children discussed how long it would take to get to the top of Mount Everest.
They worked out that it would take approximately three months to get from Brookham to the peak. What a lot of travelling goes into climbing a mountain! Nick asked the children to breath through straws to simulate what it is like to breathe through an oxygen mask at 8000 metres.
The children learned how they could save their friends from falling down a huge crevasse and what vital equipment they would need to survive the climb. Nick was awe-inspiring! Luckily, he will be back to Brookham soon to speak to the whole school in an assembly about overcoming fear. To overcome his own fears, Nick will be spending ten days underground in some of the world's most dangerous tunnels and caves!
Following the visit from Nick Carter, the children from Year 3 were given the chance to climb their own mountain by scaling a 45ft climbing wall. Everyone rallied together to support their friends on their journey up the tricky, steep wall to the top. The children had to be focused, resilient, brave and strong enough to push and pull themselves up to the top. They have had a wonderful start to their topic, Ice Worlds.
