Annual Old Highfieldian Golf Day at Liphook Golf Course
On a glorious September’s day the eleventh meeting of the Highfield Golfing Association was held at Liphook Golf Club.
In all there were 24 participants of varying vintages, ranging from Harold Thrower and John Morgan from the 1940s and ‘50s to Stephen Reed and Simon Hardie in the 2000s. This year we were delighted to have four ladies playing, Anne Bevan, Sally Hardie, Kathryn Todd and Di Brownrigg.
The course was looking lovely in the crisp morning sunshine, though a tough test of golf as usual, and the scoring very respectable. The awards went to:
‘Nearest the Pin’ was won by Di Brownrigg, very close indeed by all accounts!
‘Longest Drive’ was won by Christopher Reed, who shrewdly managed to locate the fairway where most others had failed.
The best Team Prize was won by John Bevan, Di Brownrigg and Alistair Harrdie.
The winner of the prestigious Mills Cup, presented by Bill Mills, was Anne Bevan with an impressive score of 37 stableford points. We were thrilled to have our first female winner of the trophy, even more so as her husband John came second at only a point behind.
Much fun was had by all, and our thanks go as ever to all at Liphook Golf Course for a splendid day... great course, great lunch and great company!
We are looking forward to next year’s event on Thursday 12th Sept 2019.
