House Poetry Recitation Competition
The Friday before Half Term saw the children gather excitedly in the Theatre for the annual House Poetry Competition, which, this year, was judged by Mr Magnus Bashaarat, Headmaster of Bedales School. The entries were of a superlative quality with all the performers showing nerves of steel, wonderful theatricality and a real command of their Poems. Mr Bashaarat commended all the competitors for their efforts and had an extremely difficult task in choosing the winners from each group. Congratulations to: Breanna Kayondo who won the Junior Competition (Year 4) with 'Please Don't Read This Poem' by Kenn Nesbitt; Flora Tyrwhitt-Drake who won the Year 5 Competition with 'I'm in Love with a Slug' by Brian Moses; Selina Hunter who won the Middle School Competition (Years 5 and 6) with 'The Porcupine' by Roald Dahl; Florence Hardwick who won the Year 7 Competition with 'To Autumn' by John Keats and especially to Rory Gordon who won both the Senior Competition (Years 7 and 8) and 'Overall Best Performance' for his rendition of 'Talking Turkeys' by Benjamin Zephaniah. Thea Porter is also to be congratulated for winning the 'Best Dramatic Performance' Award for her performance of 'Memorial' by Alice Oswald. Agincourt and Trafalgar finished joint second, so first place was taken by Waterloo. Well done to everyone who took part. You can watch a video of the children in action below.
