The Wellington Tournament is one of the most well attended rugby tournaments of the prep school calendar and it served as a great opportunity for our U13As to get some match time. Our fixture list included Newlands House, Northcote Lodge and Horris Hill so it was evident that we would have to work hard. Throughout the day, I could not fault the enthusiasm and commitment from the entire squad who never took a backwards step in any aspect of the game, but it wasn’t until the last few minutes of the fixture against Eagle House that Highfield started to believe. The momentum shifted, with Oliver Amis sidestepping his way through the defensive line and putting Harry Skinner in space to attack out wide. A few well fought rucks later, and Milo Peach stole the ball for Highfield, and sent Benet Horan crashing over the line and scoring under the posts. A fantastic team effort by all boys over the course of the day. The game time also highlighted what we need to focus on in training in order to improve this season.
