Highfield and Brookham Schools Welcome 39 International Students
Highfield & Brookham Summer School

We welcomed 39 international students at the end of July for a three-week taster of life at an English country boarding school; a year at Highfield and Brookham in miniature, all in a caring and supportive environment.

The children, ranging in age from 8-15 years old, came from a variety of countries including China, Korea, Japan, Russia, Poland, Belarus, Turkey, Spain, Italy and Switzerland.

The Highfield Summer School is now in its 5th year, and provides three weeks of inspirational learning and adventure, set in Highfield and Brookham’s 175 acres of stunning grounds. The course includes English language tuition by qualified and experienced EFL teachers, as well as science and history lessons. Qualified sports coaches provided introductory courses to a range of traditional English sports such as rugby, cricket, hockey, netball and tennis, which included the teaching of basic skills, as well as the excitement of game play with matches, prizes and awards.

During the three weeks, the students enjoyed a variety of fun leisure activities such as bushcraft, cookery, movie making and nature walks. Some of their true highlights were trips to Winchester Planetarium, Fort Purbrook Activity centre, Hampton Court Palace, London site seeing tour and a unique robotics lessons from Jon Taylor, Head of Design Engineering from Cranleigh School.

The parent of Ethan, one of the children attending this year’s summer school said,

Ethan told to me that doesn’t want to leave. Now, I realise there must be MAGIC in the school - not only your team’s professionalism, organisation and excellent execution, but also the care for all of the pupils.

Phillip Evitt, Headmaster of Highfield School says

We were delighted to welcome an amazing group of students from such a diverse range of countries and cultures. It was fantastic to see their language skills (speaking, understanding, reading and writing) improve over the three weeks, whilst also learning about a fun and exciting mix of topics with something of interest to everyone.
