Record-breaking amount raised for Highfield Highreach Holidays
At the end of the autumn term, children held a Christmas Produce Sale raising an amazing £2,146 for Highfield Highreach Holidays. This is the most amount of money that has ever been raised at this annual event.
There was a huge array of Christmas gifts available ranging from homemade sweet treats and jars of sweets, jams and honeys, to Christmas decorations and pre-loved toys and books. The children gave up their free time after school to help raise money for this amazing charity, running games such as ‘Find the Golden Carrot’, ‘Pig Race’, and ‘Splat the Elf’!
Highfield Highreach Holidays is a small volunteer-run organisation that provides an annual week-long residential holiday for children and young adults, aged 8 -16 years old, with a range of learning difficulties, who may also have physical disabilities or medical conditions. It allows them to enjoy an incredible week full of memorable experiences in the safe environment of our school. It also provides crucial respite for the families of these children. Next year’s holiday will be held from 2nd to 9th August 2020.
Fundraising events, such as this Christmas Produce Sale are vital as the organisation also accommodates those families who cannot afford the high price of many commercial respite care schemes. Costs are kept low by raising funds to cover more than 50% of the cost of the holidays, and because all of the staff are volunteers.
Phillip Evitt, Headmaster said:
An enormous thank you to everyone who kindly supported the Christmas Produce Sale by making, baking, donating or spending at the sale raising a tremendous sum of money for next year’s Highfield Highreach Holiday. The children attending will be able to enjoy numerous opportunities and trips as a result of your kindness and support.
We are currently looking for volunteers aged 17 and over for our next Highfield Highreach Holiday.
